Ergonomic products abound, and many of them can be useful.  However, good ergonomics and position isn't about how many products you have or how expensive your chair is.

Good positioning, movement and ergonomics is based on principles and methods.

You may use some commercially available products to help you achieve the positions and postures you need.  Other, quick and cheap solutions are sometimes equally as effective (such as a little travel pillow for a lumbar support, or a regular, covered foam cushion or wedge for your seat, and a thick telephone book for your feet.)  These might work in your home office and some corporate offices, but not in others.  It depends on your budget (or your companies budget).  Good ergonomics is not dependent on commercially available products.  All it takes is a little creativity and a willingness to work on finding the best ergonomics solutions for your needs!

These product suggestions are provided as a resource guide for finding good products to help with your ergonomics and positioning needs.  In no way is any product endorsed or commercially advertised on this web web site.  Recommendations are made by the staff and reviewers of Custom Solutions.

BACK REST

Kensington Memory Foam Back Rest.  Memory foam is pressure and temperature sensitive and, although it's normally more expensive, it is HIGHLY recommended for seated positioning and posture.
BACK REST
HalfBack® Pad - Black
This is a highly recommended backrest.  Users have consistently reported good results with the feel and results of this backrest.  It provides lumbar curvature as well as some lateral / side support to 'cradle' the back to good contour.
SEAT CUSHION
Memory Foam Seat Rest
Memory Foam Seat Rest
Another great seat pad - also highly recommended.  This is a flat pad which, when placed on a flat chair, provides the 'thigh parallel to floor' position.  Good comfort and memory foam which is supportive and yet contouring.
Product Image Master Caster® Adjustable Foam Seat/Back Cushion
These cushions have adjustable foam pieces which allow the user to adjust the size of each cushion as well as the angle of the seat cushion.  This is especially useful in allowing for altered sitting angles and changing center of gravity.  Versatile cushions for support.
SoleMate™ Plus Kensington foot rests
Flat Panel Desk Mount Monitor Arm - Gray Example of a flat screen LCD monitor mount.
LCD monitors or 'flat screen' monitors are very highly recommended for a number of reasons:
  • Less glare
  • Better for the eyes - less eye strain
  • Crisp, clear text and images
  • Lightweight and easy to move and position
  • Can be mounted on an easily moveable mounting arm

Take care not to use a monitor stand or mounting arm that will raise the monitor too high or bring it too close to you.
